Many community halls, local council venues and clubrooms are essentially blank canvases. You can often hire them for a fraction of the cost of a traditional wedding venue and have the freedom to bring in your own catering, drinks and decorations.

Sometimes all a simple space needs is a few flowers, some fairy lights, a playlist you love and the people who matter most.

The Secret Weapon: Weekday Weddings

Here's another little trick that can save you thousands.

Consider getting married on a Thursday or Friday.

Many venues charge significantly less for weekday bookings than they do for Saturdays. The same can apply to photographers, florists and other wedding suppliers.

Sure, Saturday weddings are traditional, but so is paying far more than you need to.

And let's be honest—your guests will survive taking a day off work for a good love story.

The best weddings aren't necessarily the most expensive ones.  They're the ones where the couple feels relaxed, present and surrounded by the people they love.

Whether you're standing barefoot on a beach, under a gum tree, in a community hall or on the middle of a football oval, the moment you say "I do" is what everyone will remember.
