Level Up with a Games Themed Wedding
If you and your partner would rather spend a Saturday conquering dragons, rolling dice, building worlds or arguing over who really won Monopoly, why not make that part of your wedding story?
Choosing a wedding theme doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Start with something that’s already you. Maybe it’s your favourite colour, a shared hobby, a sport you both love, or even the place where you first met. If you’re quite homebodies who’d rather spend an evening gaming than dancing until midnight, embrace it! Your wedding should feel like the two of you.
Let’s Talk Games!
We’ve all got that friend (or maybe you are that friend) with the gaming setup that looks like mission control – multiple monitors, glowing lights, an impressive snack collection and enough board games to survive a zombie apocalypse.
The good news? You can recreate that atmosphere without spending a fortune.
A community hall, warehouse or clubroom makes the perfect blank canvas. Darken the room with black sheets, inexpensive black plastic tablecloths or even aluminium foil on the windows – if you really want that cosy gaming den vibe. Add fairy lights, LED strips, smart lamps or string lights instead of bright overhead lighting and suddenly you’ve transformed an ordinary room into something magical.
Scatter folding tables and chairs around the room and invite guests to bring their favourite board or card game to share. If your crowd likes online gaming, set aside a LAN corner where people can plug in their laptops and play together between celebrations.
Instead of a formal sit-down meal, keep things relaxed with snack stations filled with popcorn, pizza, sliders, chips, lollies and drinks. Nobody will complain about being handed pizza at a wedding!
Create a Spotify playlist packed with your favourite gaming soundtracks, movie themes and songs that mean something to you both. Before you know it, you’ve created a reception that is about laughing, playing and making memories together.
Time to Level Up
Your ceremony can join in the fun too.
Imagine standing beneath a "Level Up" sign as you promise forever to your favourite player two. Or perhaps you'd prefer a romantic archway covered in fairy lights with subtle nods to your favourite games hidden throughout the decorations. Minecraft, Mario, Dungeons & Dragons, Pokémon, Zelda...whatever your shared obsession is, there's a way to include it without turning your ceremony into a convention (unless that's exactly what you want!).
If dressing up sounds like fun, encourage guests to come in comfy gaming clothes or even as their favourite characters. Just make sure you mention the theme on your invitations, so everyone knows what they're walking into.
The Best Part?
There are endless ideas online for cakes, decorations, invitations and party favours. Personally, I love the idea of giving guests a special set of dice, a deck of playing cards or another small gaming keepsake to remember the day.
The best weddings aren't the ones with the biggest budget - they're the ones where everyone walks away saying, "That was so them."
After all, love isn't about following someone else's rules, it's about finding your Player Two...and choosing to play life's greatest adventure together.
